When Radio 1’s Big Weekend came to Swindon in 2009 there was one local band on everyone’s lips. Beatbullyz have built up a large following in Swindon, and headlined the Shuffle in 2008 at The Victoria to a sell-out crowd (the biggest of the weekend)!
Huw Stephens started to play them on Radio 1 in the run up to the Big Weekend, which saw the Introducing tent packed out for a mass singalong. They later recording a BBC Introducing session for Radio 1 and were one of six artists included in BBC Introducing’s Best of 2009 feature.
They’ve just finished a national tour with N-Dubz and their debut single “Skills” has just charted at #26 in the Radio 1 Dance Chart (just one position below Dizzee Rascal/Calvin Harris)!
Stornoway are former Swindon Shuffle artists from 2009. They are made up of singer and guitarist Brian Briggs; singer, guitarist, cellist and keyboardist Jon Ouin; singer, guitarist and bassist Oliver Steadman; and drummer Robert Steadman. The band is also usually joined by trumpeter Adam Briggs and violinist Rahul Satija.
Named after the Hebridean town on the Isle of Lewis, which appears on all UK televised weather reports and shipping forecasts, the group incorporates string instruments and keyboards, supported by a typical pop backline of guitar, drums, and bass guitar. The band is signed to the British independent record label 4AD.
They have just enjoyed their debut album “Beachcomber’s Windowsill” entering the charts at Number 14! This is a Swindon Shuffle first!
